Wednesday 24th

It was some surprise to see a Small Tortoiseshell fly in off the sea. A strange record and our first butterfly to be recorded this year.

This Southern (or Twin-spotted) Bush-cricket, Gryllus bimaculatus, was an unusual record from the moth trap last week. Presumably an escape, but no pet stores or reptiles kept anywhere near Sandwich Bay. How far do they wander?
