Each year we choose a recipient of the award in the memory of Tim Garland who contributed much in his tragically short life. These days it is just an honour. Nominations are sent to the chairperson and the list is voted on by past recipients of the award. The latest award goes to...
Claire Ward
Claire Ward has been a member of the Conservation Team for the past twenty years. She is currently joint leader. She is brush-cutter trained, medical adviser to all comers and chief tea maker!
Her knowledge of wildlife, birds, butterflies, moths, dragonflies, bees, plant life both wild and cultivated is undisputed. Anyone can ask anything and get a straight answer.
Her input to the Restharrow Scrape Project planning, has only been surpassed by her efforts since to maintain the islands for best viewing from the hides. She is the only one skilled enough to navigate our little boat solo across the scrape, complete with fork and brush-cutter (and matches!) in the Autumn.
She maintains the new Wildlife Pond and surrounding flower beds at the Obs, while also looking after the Middle Field Pond for wildflowers and dragonflies.
