Tuesday 18th A late Ruddy Darter was out among six Common Darters and four Migrant Hawkers in the morning sunshine on New Downs. Thursday 6th There were more Common Darters today in the sunnier conditions, 33 in fact. Quite a few were in seen in tandem pairs. Six Migrant Hawkers were also seen.
Thursday 29th There hasn’t been a great deal to see recently but the nice weather today tempted out nine Migrant Hawkers and 14 Common Darters on the Estate. Wednesday 7th It has been noted how few ‘darters’ have been around these last few weeks. Ordinarily we would expect counts in the region of 50-100 around the Estate at this time…
Wednesday 31st A sunny but windy day on Worth meant the Odonata were mostly patrolling around hedgerows and other areas in the lee of the wind. There were at least 25 Migrant Hawkers, one Brown Hawker, seven Common Darters, four Ruddy Darters, and two Common Blue Damselflies. Sunday 31st A few Willow Emerald Damselflies were around the Whitehouse in the evening. Tuesday 26th Migrant Hawkers had clearly emerged with 29 on New Downs around midday. Wednesday 29th The guided Dragonfly walk on Worth Marshes today was a great success and as soon as the sun burned through the clouds the Dragonflies performed spectacularly. Three Banded Demoiselles, three Red-eyed Damselflies, 40+ Blue-tailed Damselfies, two Variable Damselflies, three Emerald Damselflies, 13 Azure Damselflies and 20+ Common Blue Damselflies allowed excellent opportunities to provide lessons on identification.
