Role Description

Head of Publicity, Marketing & Communications (Volunteer)

Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory Trust

We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to help lead and coordinate publicity, marketing and communications for Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys communicating, sharing ideas and helping a small charity reach more people. Experience in marketing, publicity, communications or social media would be a bonus, but enthusiasm, ideas and a willingness to get involved are just as important.

You would work with our existing team, including our newsletter volunteers, Website Manager, Trustees and other committees.

What would the role involve?

You would help us:

  • Promote the Observatory, its wildlife, conservation work, events and activities.
  • Coordinate our social media, website and member communications.
  • Work with our Website Manager on ideas for improving and developing the website.
  • Support the Newsletter Team and help ensure members are kept informed.
  • Work with our Events, Fundraising and other committees to publicise their activities.
  • Help develop new ideas for reaching members, visitors, supporters and the wider public.
  • Build useful links with local organisations, conservation groups, businesses and the media.
  • Provide Trustees with a short monthly update on recent publicity activity, progress and plans for the month ahead.

You would not be expected to do everything yourself. The role is about bringing ideas together, helping coordinate the people already involved and encouraging good communication across the Observatory.

A knowledge of birds is not essential — enthusiasm for the Observatory, wildlife and conservation is much more important.

The role is voluntary and flexible, and much of it can be carried out from home.
