Saturday 28th RSPB Worth Marshes held 28 Pintail, a Great White Egret, and 130 White-fronted Geese. It was rather quiet on the Estate but small flocks of moving Redwings became apparent after nightfall. Friday 27th Four Woodcocks and two Firecrests were seen on a drizzly wander around the Estate and our first Sand Martin of the year was on RSPB…
Moths: February
Thank you to everyone who contributed moth records to us in 2025. It was an excellent year. Now is a quieter time for Moth sightings but a handful have occurred (see below). In the mean time, why not plan ahead to come visit us in the summer and see some moths for yourselves? Over 1,300 species have been recorded here, many…
Ringing: February
Thursday 26th Another field sighting of a ringed bird. This time a darvic-ringed Mediterranean Gull on Restharrow Scrape. We have contacted the co-ordinator and should hear back shortly. Wednesday 25th A warm, settled, start was forecast but still a bit of a surprise. Although we could not ring yesterday today proved well worth it. Thirty-two birds were caught of which…

Ringing: January
Please watch out for colour ringed birds and report them to us. Wednesday 28th The promise of a calm morning was enough to tempt us out and we were not disappointed. The calm and clear did result in a frost which melted away once the sun got up. Thirty-four birds were caught of which seven were new. This included…

Ringing: December
Thursday January 1st 2026 Please watch out for and record colour ringed birds. I earlier mentioned about the stories of the neck-collared Barnacle Geese. These had been photographed by one of our keen observers. When I saw the flock today I could not see any collared ones. Have they moved on or were they elsewhere on the marshes? I saw…
Birds: December
Wednesday 31st Cold conditions on New Downs but still rewards in the form of two Common Sandpipers and both Water and Rock Pipit. The overwintering Black Redstart, Dartford Warbler, and Coal Tit were all still present on the Estate whilst Glossy Ibis, ten Bar-tailed Godwits, and 11 Pintails were the highlights on RSPB Worth marshes. Good luck for everyone starting…
