Tuesday 26th

It is still a bit fresh in the breeze but in the shelter there are lots of butterflies beginning to appear. The Estate held one Holly Blue, one Comma, two Small Tortoiseshells, one Wall, eight Speckled Woods, two Small Coppers, one Peacock, four Orange-tips, and a Small White. There were at least six Orange-tips, four Speckled Woods, three Green-veined Whites, five Small Whites, and a Comma on the Green Wall too.

Thursday 21st

It was good to get the BMS Transect in today before it got too windy. The highlights on the Estate were three Green-veined Whites, six Small Coppers, three Peacocks, one Comma, and nine Speckled Woods.

Tuesday 19th

Three Small Coppers were along Prince's Beach, along with three Peacocks, a Red Admiral, a Small Tortoiseshell, and a Green-veined White.

Friday 15th

Our first Holly Blue of the year was flying around the Observatory garden around midday.

Thursday 14th

A really good mix of butterflies out today in the spring sunshine. There were five Orange-tips, four Green-veined Whites, four Speckled Woods, a Brimstone, and our first two Large Whites of the year on Worth marshes. This was followed by eight Speckled Woods, Small White, two Green-veined White, Small Tortoiseshell, and three Peacocks on the Estate and on the Green Wall there were three Speckled Woods, two Small Whites, two Orange-tips, and singles of Comma, Red Admiral, and Peacock.

Tuesday 12th

About time for the first BMS Transect of the year (last week was too cold). Five Peacocks and four Speckled Woods was a steady start. A Green-veined White was also on Worth.

Monday 11th

Six Speckled Woods on the Estate was a good count for this early in the season.

Sunday 10th

Our first Brimstone of the year was seen on the Green Wall and a Green-veined White was at the Observatory.

Saturday 9th

Five Peacocks and singles of Speckled Wood, Small White, and Green-veined White were on the Estate. The latter was the first sighting this year.

Tuesday 5th

A Small White was on New Downs in the late afternoon.
