Simon Barnes is a journalist, author and wildlife enthusiast, although much of his career involved writing for The Times as their chief sports writer (2002-2014).

He wrote a weekly wildlife column for The Times between 1989 and 1992, and then started again in 2005, adding a second in 2009. He also writes for the RSPB’s magazine Nature’s Home.

Simon has written more than twenty books, many covering his own take on birdwatching, plants and their uses and re-wilding (yourself). He recently published a book to accompany the TV series The Green Planet.

Simon is a council member of the World Land Trust, which buys land for wildlife conservation in the developing world, a patron of Save the Rhino, and honorary vice-president of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.

He was awarded the Rothschild Medal for services to conservation.
