I retired relatively recently. I’m a chemist by training and risk assessment and auditing was my profession for 30 years. And yes, I’m a DFL - but in my defence, there were few jobs in the North East where I grew up.
My wife and I were looking for an area to live in that was close to the countryside, would allow me to be involved in a local nature reserve and not too distant from the friends we left behind. Walmer meets all of these criteria and we are finding it a lovely place to live.
I have volunteered for many years with the RSPB and at a London nature reserve that was close to me. I am a keen birder but the enthusiasm of SBBOT members has started to turn me on to moths, dragonflies, bees, orchids…..
I guess I’m interested in everything and an expert in nothing – but I still love to learn.
