Tuesday 25th

Another late record, this time a Common Blue Damselfly on the Green Wall exactly a month since the last sighting.

Friday 21st

The breezy spell continues though there’s still a few bits and pieces around. A Willow Emerald Damselfly was in Waldershare Gully again whilst another was seen on New Down yesterday (only the 2nd/3rd for the site), with three late Ruddy Darters hanging on at the latter too.

Windy conditions may seem sub-optimum for monitoring dragonflies but it turns out everything is concentrated in the lee of the wind. So by moving around from wind-break to wind-break you can get a decent haul of stuff. Fieldcraft tip number one hundred and one. Migrant Hawkers predominated of course with at least 80 seen this morning with 45 Common Darters in second place.

Wednesday 5th

Quiet for odonata this week but a Willow Emerald Damselfly was in Waldershare Gully today. They’ve been thin on the ground this autumn but Waldershare Gully seems to be the place to find them, particularly the new horse-shoe path cut in by the conservation team.
