Six species on the wing today was the best for weeks. Nothing too surprising but nice late records of Brown Argus and Small White.
A rather late Large White appeared today along the riverbank at New Downs, though still some way to beat our latest ever sighting from last year on 2nd November.
Another Clouded Yellow today spotted by an eagle-eyed visitor to the beach. There’s clearly a few around at the moment so keep an eye out in the afternoon sun.
A brisk walk to the outer reaches of New Downs produced singles of Clouded Yellow, Red Admiral, and Small Heath.
A cold northerly and yet another Clouded Yellow put in an appearance along the Worth track.
An arrival of Red Admirals on the Estate today was no doubt correlated with the southerly air flow at the moment. At least 24 were noted with the biggest concentration nectaring on flowering ivy by the Little Elms. A few late Small Heaths and Common Blues continue to be seen whilst two Clouded Yellows were noted on the 7th and one on the 9th.
