Wednesday 25th

This morning’s calm conditions enabled 11 species to be found in the recording area; an amazing diversity for this late in the year. A Painted Lady was in Middle Field and at least three Clouded Yellows were still in residence around the Whitehouse and Haven area. Late records of Common Blue, Brown Argus, and Comma were also on the Estate but over on the Green Wall SBBOT’s latest ever Holly Blue was noted.

Monday 16th

A Painted Lady in the Oasis field was a surprise, probably linked to the wind switching to a warm southerly breeze, whilst a late Brown Argus was found in the Gullies.

Saturday 14th

Today’s warm(ish) weather brought to life a few species on the Estate. The highlight of which was a brief helice Clouded Yellow skipping through Middle Field, with two nominate forms also present around the Whitehouse. Small Tortoiseshell put in a rare appearance, as did Peacock and Common Blue, but the main activity was of Red Admirals with double figures present.

Tuesday 3rd

Ten species have been identified so far this month, the most notable of which have been a fresh female Meadow Brown on the beach yesterday and 6 Clouded Yellows today – five on New Downs and one on the shore.
