The recently-discovered <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>SCARCE BLUE-TAILED DAMSELFLIES<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">were still present. At least seven were on the new Dragonfly Ponds. Also on the Estate were four Blue-tailed Damselflies, six Common Blue Damselflies, one Red-eyed Damselfly, 34 Small Red-eyed Damselflies, one Azure Damselfly, two Willow Emerald Damselflies, two Emerald Damselflies, five Ruddy Darters, 29 Common Darters, one Brown Hawker, one Southern Hawker, 25 Migrant Hawkers, and two Emperors.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Wednesday 21st<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A mid-morning walk along the Green Wall brought extraordinary numbers of Willow Emerald Damselfly. A minimum of 66 were recorded, almost ten times higher than the previous record! Two Common Blue Damselflies, one Blue-tailed Damselfly, 26 Ruddy Darters, nine Common Darters, one Emperor, 21 Migrant Hawkers, and two Brown Hawkers were also logged.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Monday 19th<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Despite thorough searching there was no sign of any <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>SCARCE BLUE-TAILED DAMSELFLIES<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\">yesterday. However, a long effort again today found at least one male.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9319\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9319\" style=\"width: 2048px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9319 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/sbbot.org.uk\/2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/Scarce-Blue-tailed-Damselfly-Aug24-SNorth-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sbbot.org.uk\/2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/Scarce-Blue-tailed-Damselfly-Aug24-SNorth-2.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/sbbot.org.uk\/2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/Scarce-Blue-tailed-Damselfly-Aug24-SNorth-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sbbot.org.uk\/2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/Scarce-Blue-tailed-Damselfly-Aug24-SNorth-2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sbbot.org.uk\/2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/Scarce-Blue-tailed-Damselfly-Aug24-SNorth-2-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sbbot.org.uk\/2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/Scarce-Blue-tailed-Damselfly-Aug24-SNorth-2-1536x1152.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9319\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Scarce Blue-tailed Damselfly by S.North<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Saturday 17th<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Four male and two female <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>SCARCE BLUE-TAILED DAMSELFLIES<\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> were present on the pools in the Dragonfly Pond field today (TR35845731).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Thursday 15th<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A much windier day today and it made things a bit more difficult, but a female <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>SCARCE BLUE-TAILED DAMSELFLIES<\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> was found hiding in the grass.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tuesday 13th<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A check on the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>SCARCE BLUE-TAILED DAMSELFLIES<\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> revealed at least five males and a female, the latter seen ovipositing in the pools. Fingers crossed for the next generation next year!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Monday 12th<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The day started with a casual look through some of the recent photos taken in the area. Sharp eyes noted that one of the damselflies looked odd and looked remarkably like a male <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>SCARCE BLUE-TAILED DAMSELFLY!<\/strong><\/span> Photos and books were consulted, plus a second opinion, and sure enough everyone agreed. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>A new species for Kent!<\/strong> <\/span>Today the area was checked and three males were seen. All the individuals were on the recently-dug pools in the Dragonfly Pond Field. Four late Dainty Damselflies, 72 Small Red-eyed Damselflies, three Emerald Damselflies, four Common Blue Damselflies, eight Emperors, 47 Migrant Hawkers, six Brown Hawkers, one Ruddy Darter, and two Southern Migrant Hawkers were also noted on the Estate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tuesday 6th<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Singles of Willow Emerald Damselfly, Southern Hawker, and LESSER EMPEROR were on Worth.
