A good morning on the Estate produced an Orange-tip, two Green-veined Whites, a Red Admiral, a Comma, eight Holly Blues, a Speckled Wood, and our first Wall<\/strong> and Small Coppers<\/strong> of the year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Friday 26th<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

A few Green Hairstreaks<\/strong> were at their usual site in Stonelees.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thursday 18th<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Six Green-veined Whites were on Worth and a male Brimstone at the Observatory.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wednesday 17th<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

A male Orange-tip was in the Observatory garden.<\/span><\/p>\n

Saturday 13th<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The good year for Green-veined White locally continued with five at Mary Bax and three on the Estate.<\/span><\/p>\n

Friday 12th<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Two Orange-tips<\/strong> on RSPB Worth marshes were our first of the year but the biggest news was the four<\/strong> Brimstones on the Estate. This is a species which is usually fairly scarce here with 12 butterfly-days in 2020 the current SBBOT record. We have already matched this in 2024 so no doubt the record will fall.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wednesday 10th<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Nice weather on New Downs produced three Red Admirals, three Peacocks, two Speckled Woods, one Small Tortoiseshell, and five Green-veined Whites (a count higher than any last year).<\/span><\/p>\n

Friday 5th<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite the strong breeze there were a number of butterflies out in the sunshine. Two Red Admirals, one Peacock, six Speckled Woods, and a Small White<\/strong> were on the Estate, with singles of the latter also seen on New Downs and RSPB Worth marshes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Monday 1st<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Three Peacocks were at Mary Bax and two Peacocks and a Speckled Wood were on the Estate.<\/span><\/p>\n
