SBBOT has a long tradition of offering courses, lectures and talks. Apart from the presentations below we also present evening programmes via zoom, such as our Wednesday Courses<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Thursday Evening Lecture Programme<\/h1>\n

Live at the Field Centre at 7.30pm<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Each year we book a wide range of speakers and subjects and although most talks are mainly about birds, there are other wildlife subjects included, such as talks on Dragonflies and Flowers etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our talk programme also covers lots of different countries as well as more local topics.<\/span><\/p>\n

(Volunteer request<\/strong> - we do need some people to help out again with the teas\/coffees and car parking on each evening. Therefore, if you are able to help at either of the first couple of talks, then please<\/em> email the talks organiser Ian Searle<\/a> Once we are up running, Ian will be putting the volunteer sheet on the notice board for people to add their names too, the same as last year - thank you<\/em>.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Our Spring 2026 programme has now concluded and we are planning the Autum programme which will start in September 2026 - watch this space<\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n

June 4th - Great White Egrets on the Avalon Marshes: What have we learned from 10 years of ringing? -\u00a0 by Dr Alison Morgan <\/strong>from the RSPB<\/h4>\n

In 2012 Great White Egrets bred for the first time in the UK on the Avalon Marshes in Somerset. A colour ringing programme was launched in 2016; since then Somerset juveniles have been resighted from all over the country, and in recent years have begun to establish new breeding colonies far from their home region. In this fully illustrated talk Alison will explain what we are learning about this species as it continues its rapid colonisation of the country.<\/p>\n
