May Half-term Guided Walk 2026

This May Half -Term join a team of rangers from Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory and White Cliffs Countryside Partnership for an inspiring guided nature walk. We're hoping to offer young people in the area a chance to unwind in nature while boosting skills and confidence in birdwatching, connecting with the environment, and meeting like-minded people!
May is the best time to hit Sandwich Bay because everything happens at once. You’ll catch the peak of bird migration, see rare orchids starting to bloom, and spot all the new spring insects and wildlife. It’s basically the ultimate month for a nature trip!
We hope to see a mix of resident birds, spring migrants, and coastal breeders, including Sandwich tern — the bay’s namesake species, often seen plunge -diving at the beach; Cuckoo; Reed warbler and other warblers; Oystercatchers and other passage migrants such as Wheatears, Whimbrels, Hobbies plus lots of species of insect!
We'll be sharing insights into the both organisations conservation efforts on our leisurely towards the Bay, where we'll stop to learn about the work we’re doing to protect migratory and beach-nesting birds.
It’s a perfect opportunity to explore new places, sharpen your bird ID skills and enjoy the outdoors this Spring, all while meeting some wonderful new faces.
This event is open to people of all backgrounds and experience levels – from seasoned birders to those just starting their wildlife journey.
