Dragonflies: August 2016
Just to give the lad a day off from the zygoptera, I counted 16 male Small Red-eyed Damselflies on the Dragonfly Pond.
A trek to the outer reaches of the recording area (by Steffan naturally) was rewarded with the rare sight of an Scarce Emerald Damselfly ovipositing.
Not content with counting Willow Emeralds outdoors, Steffan found a male in the Observatory shop of all places.
Another four Willow Emerald Damselflies were found around the estate by our man from Bardsey. Not content with this, he then counted 65+ Small Red-eyed Damselflies on the Middle Field Pond
Two Willow Emeralds were found together this morning, making a probable total of six so far this year. Hopefully, it is in the process of colonising locally, having been recorded here for the first time in August 2014.
Steffan Walton caught a Willow Emerald Damselfly in the Whitehouse this afternoon.
A Willow Emerald Damselfly was found this morning, while Migrant Hawker numbers continue to increase and Southern Hawkers are dotted about in small numbers.
