And the Red-veined Darter record is broken again with a female/immature found this morning on Royal St George’s Golf Course. At least 16 Common Darters and eight Migrant Hawkers kept it company.
I said that a surprise could appear and sure enough a fresh Red-veined Darter was seen in the Oasis area today. Not quite in the same league as Vagrant Emperor but it becomes our latest ever record (by almost a month).
Very much coming to the end of the Odonata season with just the two main species dominating. There were 12 Common Darters and two Migrant Hawkers on New Downs today with seven Common Darters and ten Migrant Hawkers on Worth marshes. There’s probably still a few Willow Emerald Damselflies and Ruddy Darters hanging on but unless a surprise Vagrant Emperor or similar appears i would expect these updates to become more sporadic from now on.
