Wednesday 20th

An early morning stroll along Mary Bax and the Chequers brought singles of Four-spotted and Broad-bodied Chasers, ten Blue-tailed, four Azure, and an excellent 230 Variable Damselflies. Later on at midday there were two Hairy Dragonflies, one Four-spotted Chaser, and 18 Azure and 15 Blue-tailed Damselflies on the Estate.

Tuesday 19th

Our first Banded Demoiselle of the year was on the Delf on Worth this morning, with at least 14 Hairy Dragonflies too.

Monday 18th

A few Large Red and Red-eyed Damselflies were on the Estate today.

Saturday 9th

A couple of Broad-bodied Chasers and Azure Damselflies were reported today but otherwise kind of quiet.

Friday 8th

Today was the best day of the year so far with two Hairy Dragonflies, a Four-spotted Chaser, two Large Red Damselflies, seven Variable Damselflies, one Azure Damselfly, and four Blue-tailed Damselflies on Worth marshes.

Wednesday 6th

Two Hairy Dragonflies and our first Azure Damselfly were on Worth marshes this morning. Bit by bit it’s happening.

Tuesday 5th

A male Broad-bodied Chaser was sheltering from the wind in the Whitehouse ringing area, our first this year.

Saturday 2nd

Finally….the Odonata season begins. A Hairy Dragonfly was seen along the Delf Stream on Worth marshes today. Have the cold temperatures delayed emergence this year or is it simply lack of observer coverage due to coronavirus restrictions?
