A Small Tortoiseshell fluttered past the Observatory on November 2nd and a Red Admiral was seen on the 8th.

In December, warm sunny weather on the 4th encouraged Red Admiral and Small Tortoiseshell to show themselves, another Red Admiral flew into the Elms on the 9th and unsurprisingly, as the thermometer hit 14 degrees on the 16th, a Peacock flew past HQ.

The first butterflies of 2016 were a Small Tortoiseshell over Restharrow Scrape and a Red Admiral in the Little Elms in warm, still weather on January 6th. However, there was precious little else to be reported until a Small Tortoiseshell on March 11th; hopefully heralding the onset of spring rather than a window of warmth in the dead of winter.
