A Painted Lady in Big Gully was a little unusual but possibly brought in with the southerly winds of late.
A stunning day for the middle of November meant a few butterflies were logged for the first time in a while. A Clouded Yellow was on New Downs and a handful of Red Admirals were spread around.
A Small White at Backsand this morning was unusual and three days later than last our last record last year. Not too far off our latest ever record too.
It’s always a good month when the first butterfly reported is a Clouded Yellow. A single was observed on the Estate today and then later on a Common Blue appeared too. This is now the latest Common Blue ever recorded at Sandwich Bay, the previous record held by one on New Downs on 1st Nov 2014.
