The first Small Heath of the year was seen in the Oasis this morning.
With the increase in day-time temperatures it’s probably of no surprise that Butterfly numbers have increased in line. Green-veined Whites continue to rule the roost with 70 on Worth yesterday and 40 on the Estate today. Picking out the Small Whites amongst them is increasingly problematic. There was also a good showing of six Holly Blues and ten Small Coppers on the Estate today.
A few Large Whites are starting to appear on the Estate in small numbers but Green-veined Whites are still the most numerous Butterfly by far.
After yesterday’s torrid conditions it was refreshing to see a few species of Butterfly tempted out again in the sunshine. Our first Small Copper of the year was a nice highlight by the Oasis whilst a good count of 15 Orange-tips was recorded in and around the Elms/Gullies area.
